In June 2023, police say the officer provided investigators with false, misleading or inaccurate information concerning a criminal investigation involving the individual he was having a personal relationship with.
On Tuesday, Const. Werton Maciel-Sampaio, 39, was charged with two counts of attempt to obstruct justice and one count of perjury.
He is scheduled to appear in court on June 7.
Cops say Const. Maciel-Sampaio has five years of service with Toronto Police and is suspended with pay as per the Police Services Act.
